The Chinmaya Mission Pledge
We stand as one family, bound to each other, with love and respect. We serve as an army, courageous and disciplined, ever ready to fight against, all low tendencies and false values, within and without us. We live honestly the noble life of sacrifice and service, producing more than what we consume, and giving more than what we take. We seek the Lord’s Grace to keep us on the path of virtue, courage and wisdom. May Thy grace and blessings flow through us to the world around us. We believe that the service of our country is the service of the Lord of Lords, And the devotion to the people is the devotion to the Supreme Self. We know our responsibilities, give us the ability and the courage to fulfill them. OM TAT SAT For explanation on Pledge, read |
ABOUT CORD - Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development The Background and how CORD emerged The Chinmaya Mission, the well known social, spiritual and educational organisation, in its goal to work comprehensively for the betterment of society, decided to engage closely with the rural communities in and around its ashram at Sidhbari in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. To that end the Chinmaya Rural Primary Health Care and Training Centre (CRPHTC) was set up in 1985 in Sidhbari.(H.P.)
It soon became clear that healthcare issues were inextricably intertwined with the overall social and economic realties of rural India: poverty, illiteracy and gender discrimination. The approach, therefore, turned more holistic and development-oriented and focused especially on women’s empowerment. Healthcare and nutrition, micro- banking and income generation schemes, rehabilitation of specially abled children and natural resource management training all became areas for the programme to cover. Today the holistic programme covers nearly 500 villages involving 45000 people directly and over 200,000 indirectly. To replicate the successful work done by our rural project in Sidhbari C.O.R.D (Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development) was constituted in December 2003 with its Registered Head office in New Delhi, to start similar rural development projects in other parts of India. With this the Mission is now poised for a fuller realization of its objectives in the rural sector. The Mission of CORD To facilitate participatory and integrated sustainable development of the poor. The Vision of CORD To harness human resources and enable the poor to transform their lives through programmes driven by themselves.
